Becnel Family Genealogy Forum

Jay, After years of research, I have come to believe that the name Becnel is derived from the Bicknell surname. The name probably originated in Somersetshire, England in a place called Beacon Hill. First it was "somebody of Beacon Hill", then the surname varied from Beconhill to Beckenell to Bicknell and sometimes even spelled Bequenelle among many other variants. The surname Becnel was originally used by Thomas Becnel who married Catherine Brou in Louisiana in 1742. All who spell their last name BECNEL connect back to this union in some way or another. In particular, I have quite a bit on your line at least as far back as Pierre Benjamin Becnel and Marie Elisa Loup. I do not have all of their children and further descendants.
