If you give me his parents' names or maybe grandparents' names, I can better direct you. I have the Becnel Genealogy to the origin of the name in 1742 in Louisiana.

The Becnel name originated in Louisiana. It was the mispelled phonetic interpretation of Bicknell on the marriage certificate of Thomas Becnel and Catherine Brou. I have a copy of their marriage certificate online. Frederick Becnel may have gone to Virginia from Louisiana, but the name did not originate there. It originated in England as Bicknell or Bickenell or other variant back to "name of Beacon Hill", and then it was changed by the French priest who married Thomas (who signed his name with an X) and Catherine in south Louisiana.
