Hi Arietta, I am sorry it has been so long since I have checked in, but I am happy to hear from you. My father's maternal grandmother married Dega Becknel, (spelling differs) we have traced them back to the 1920 cenus, and perhaps the 1890 census. My Becknels were a born and lived in St Charles Parish, Ama Lousiana. They were land owners and educated. Listed as Mullatos and then progressed to Blacks. We are having a Becknel family reunion in Ama/New Orleans this year during the July 4th week. Please feel free to email me if you want to discuss and compare notes further. There are still a lot of Colored Becknels in St Charles Parish, and we have done extensive research.
